State profiles

In 2022, the HDA research team started working on a project called “Analytical Characterization and Data Analysis of US States As Guide on Social Determinants of Health in Primary Care and Policy Changes: HDA Hispanic States’ Profiles. Now, in 2025 under the support of CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, we are publishing the results of this great effort that provides a great characterization in oral health, overall health, and social determinants of health (SDOH) for 52 US jurisdictions, including the 50 US states, the unincorporated territory of Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia (DC). This analytical characterization and data analysis provides a better framework to policy makers and advocacy groups about how social determinants of health (SDOH) significantly impact oral and overall health outcomes, contributing to disparities in access to care and prevalence of oral diseases. Factors like socioeconomic status, education level, and the broader social and physical environment all play a role in shaping oral health.
